It was unpaved, with no ropes or railings to hold on to. This is partly the reason why not that many locals visit the cave system themselves. Fortunately, the National Museum has been planning to fix the routes to the cave system to bring these heritage treasures closer to visitors. Our intrepid tour guides were none other than Kuya Giovanie Fabro and Dream Paradise Mountain Resort Sir Abner Faminiano, two of the staunchest advocates for Bantoanon culture and heritage.

Banton is derived from the word "Bantoon" which means Rocky in Asi. The main source of income of the Bantoanons are copra making and fishing. According to 2015 census, Banton has a population of little more than 5,000 only. Indeed, much remains to be discovered about the Guyangan Cave System. Though Banton is a small island about 10 hours away from the capital, it could tell us significantly more about our pre-colonial past.

There are some other beautiful beaches out there like the Tabunan, Tambak and Balogo beach. Puyo island is also something you might want to explore. There are also churches and old houses made of stones. According to the historical records of the Recollects, almost immediately after taking on the post of the missionaries, violent attacks were launched in Romblon by the Moros. The savage attacks of the Muslims gravely disrupted the evangelization of the first Recollect mission, Fr.

One of the most popular beaches is the Banton Island Beach, which has crystal-clear waters and white sand. You can also visit the nearby uninhabited islands such as Carabao Island, which is known for its stunning rock formations. Banton is a fifth-class municipality in the province of Romblon. It is a member of the Maghali Group of Islands or the Tres Islas composed of Sibale, Simara and Banton. Banton is composed of the main island of Banton and the un-inhabited islets of Bantoncillo, Carlota and Isabel. The inhabitants of the island are called Bantoanon and they speak "Asi" dialect.

Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 28.4 meters or 93.0 feet above mean sea level. The population of Banton grew from 4,043 in 1903 to 5,737 in 2020, an increase of 1,694 people over the course of 117 years. The latest census figures in 2020 denote a positive growth rate of 0.75%, or an increase of 201 people, from the previous population of 5,536 in 2015. Banton, formerly known as Jones, is a coastal municipality in the island province of Romblon. In the field of material achievements, much had been done by the Recollects and the Bantoanons. They reconstructed the church continually due to devastating typhoons that may come and the surprise attacks of Muslims.

Together with the rest of the Philippines, Banton lies entirely within the tropics. Its proximity to the equator means that the temperature range is very small, rarely going lower than 20 °C (68 °F) and going higher than 38 °C (100 °F) . However, humidity levels are usually very high which makes it feel much warmer. It has a distinct dry season from late January through May, and a relatively lengthy wet season that covers the remaining period. Southwest monsoon or Habagat can occur from June to October and can cause rough seas in Sibuyan Sea and Tablas Strait making traveling by sea difficult. In 1635, the spiritual administration of the newly established town was entrusted to the Secular Eclessiastics of the Diocese of Cebu as a town annexed to the curacy of Ajui in Panay.
